DAZN ANNOUNCES EIGHT-YEAR DEAL WITH MATCHROOM BOXING USA TO EXCLUSIVELY BROADCAST FIGHTS IN CANADA

First event headlined by Jessie Vargas vs. Thomas Dulorme on Saturday, Oct. 6

TORONTO, Sept. 25, 2018 – DAZN, the live and on-demand sports streaming platform, announced today that it has signed an eight-year distribution deal with Matchroom Boxing USA, a world-leading boxing promoter, to exclusively deliver a series of fight nights along with original programming on DAZN Canada.

DAZN Canada plans to broadcast 16 live fight nights through August 2019, beginning with the Jessie Vargas vs. Thomas Dulorme card on Oct. 6, 2018 at Wintrust Arena in Chicago and Oct. 20, 2018, when Billy Joe Saunders defends his middleweight title against Demetrius Andrade at TD Garden in Boston. DAZN will also produce original programming that viewers can watch ahead of and following fights.

DAZN’s investment comes on the heels of a historic $1 billion dollar joint venture between Matchroom Boxing and DAZN Group that was announced earlier this year. This joint venture represents DAZN’s vision to reignite the fight sports community and to bring passionate fans closer to their sport and fighters.

“For too long, the fight sports market in Canada has been underserved,” said Joseph Markowski, DAZN SVP, North America. “Our partnership with Matchroom allows us to drive our fans-first approach and give our users an opportunity to pay one monthly flat fee with no long-term contract or commitment, an unprecedented value proposition for fight fans.”

Matchroom Boxing Managing Director Eddie Hearn said, “DAZN has already proven to be an integral partner in Matchroom’s growth around the world. For fight fans specifically, we want to make DAZN a must-have for fight fans by featuring the world’s biggest athletes at premium venues. By expanding our relationship into Canada, we’re confident we can make that vision become reality.”

For more information, fans can follow DAZN Canada’s social channels: @DAZN on Facebook, @DAZN_CA for Twitter, and DAZN_CA for Instagram.

WBC Silver title on the line for Vargas and Dulorme

Welterweights meet in Chicago on October 6 – clash with Porter targeted for the winner

Jessie Vargas and Thomas Dulorme will clash for the WBC Silver Welterweight title at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago on October 6, live on DAZN.

Former two-weight World ruler Vargas (28-2 10KOs) is gunning for the chance to become a two-time champion at 147lbs and victory over Dulorme (24-3 16KOs) would move him into pole position to face newly crowned WBC champion Shawn Porter as the mandatory challenger, after Porter defeated Danny Garcia in Brooklyn earlier in the month.

Las Vegas star Vargas headlines Matchroom Boxing USA’s first show in the States on DAZN and will have his hands full with the Puerto Rican – but with the stakes now raised even more, Vargas believes he can deliver a ‘tremendous’ victory and kickstart an exciting period in the peak of his career.

“My focus has to be solely on Thomas Dulorme,” said WBC #3 ranked Vargas. “This man is no walk in the park, he fights with his heart and always gives it his all, but I have prepared properly and record a tremendous victory. It’s going to be a great show and I’m proud to be headlining it.

“This is the first step in the new phase of my career. As a fighter, it’s always best to have fights lined up and have a clear plan, have a promoter that shows you ‘you are going to fight three times in 12 months’ and when you get that certainty you know you have a couple of weeks off after a fight and then you are into another training camp to give the fans another great. I am stull young and I have plenty of years left in me at the very top level – I’m truly excited.

“Shawn Porter is my boy and he’s a great fighter, he’s got a lot of experience, great stamina and power. I will fight the top guys, all the champions, there are some huge fights to make out there at Welterweight. We’re all going to go at it and we’re going to see who ends up on top.”

“Jessie is the leading contender in the WBC rankings and I am very confident that victory on October 6 will lead him to the mandatory position for Shawn Porter,” said promoter Eddie Hearn. “That’s a great fight that we would be very interested in but first he must win the Mexico vs Puerto Rico battle in Chicago.”

Vargas and Dulorme clash on a huge night of action in Chicago, with two World title clashes and a huge fight for an American Heavyweight star.

Russian Artur Beterbiev defends his IBF World Light-Heavyweight title against fellow unbeaten puncher Callum Johnson, the Brit in his first World title fight.

Daniel Roman defends his WBA Super-Bantamweight crown against another Brit, second time World title challenger Gavin McDonnell, while Brooklyn’s brash Heavyweight star Jarrell Miller meets Polish legend Tomasz Adamek and three debutants grace the bill as Team USA talents Reshat Mati, Nikita Ababiy and Nkosi Solomon lace them up for the first time.

Along with these World stars and promising youngsters, Chicago fight fans will be able to back two of their own on the night, with former World Lightweight title challenger Jessica McCaskill in action on the bill along with unbeaten Bantamweight prospect Shawn Simpson.

Tickets for October 6 are on sale now priced $40, $60, $100 and $200 and are available from:

Ababiy turns pro in Chicago on October 6

‘White Chocolate’ joins the paid ranks in the Windy City

Nikita Ababiy will make his professional debut in the first Matchroom Boxing USA show live on DAZN at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago on October 6.

The 19 year old Brooklyn talent know as ‘White Chocolate’ will join fellow former Team USA debutant Nkosi Solomon in taking his first steps in the professional game on the bill topped by Jessie Vargas’ clash with Thomas Dulorme – and the 19 year old former Jr. Golden Gloves champion cannot wait to showcase his skills live on DAZN.

“I’m so excited, this is what I’ve been training for my whole life and it’s time to show the world who ‘White Chocolate’ is,” said Ababiy.

“I’ve never been to Chicago so I’m looking forward to making my debut in a new city, it just adds to the whole occasion for me.

“I know that I am going to be really active with Eddie Hearn and DAZN. I think we’re looking at trying to fight ten times in the first year which would be great.

“The first couple of fights is looking to get experience. When I start facing fighters that are stronger then we may look to go down the weights, I think I could make Super-Welterweight and maybe even 147lbs, who knows, I want to do it all, winning World titles at multiple weights is the dream.

“I’ll fight anybody. Whoever wants to fight, let’s fight. I just want to take over, I want to win in every division and be a pound-for-pound star.

“People will always remember that Nikita Ababiy was one of the first guys to sign with Eddie Hearn and DAZN in the States. I am my biggest challenge. I know what I have to do. I cannot back down, that’s what makes me different.

“White Chocolate came about because when I was in the gym training and sparring, I was pretty flashy and they were saying ‘he’s white, with a lot of rhythm, let’s call him white chocolate’ and ever since then, that’s what it’s been ever since!

“I know that my style is awkward, I don’t like to be predictable. I train like I am preparing to fight the best in the world, that’s how I train, if I’m coming I’m ready – that’s all it is.”

Ababiy will take his spot under the bright lights as Matchroom Boxing USA and DAZN usher in a new era in boxing in America.

There are two great World title clashes between IBF World Light-Heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev against Briton Callum Johnson and WBA World Super-Bantamweight champion Daniel Roman defending his crown for the third time against Britain’s Gavin McDonnell.

Ababiy’s fellow Brooklynite Jarrell Miller is right in the mix for the big fights in the Heavyweight division and he takes on Poland’s Tomasz Adamek, the former two-weight World champion who picked up and defended the Polish title in his last two fights in his homeland.

Along with these World stars, Chicago fight fans will be able to back two of their own on the night, with former World Lightweight title challenger Jessica McCaskill in action on the bill along with unbeaten Bantamweight prospect Shawn Simpson.

Solomon makes pro debut on October 6

Heavyweight talent joins the paid ranks in Chicago

Nkosi Solomon will make his professional debut in the first Matchroom Boxing USA show live on DAZN at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago on October 6.

The 23 year old amateur star from Brownsville, Brooklyn is billed as a future star in the Heavyweight division by promoter Eddie Hearn, and the former Team USA man and number one amateur in the States is thrilled to be joining the paid ranks in the Windy City on a stellar undercard to Jessie Vargas’ clash with Thomas Dulorme.

“My dream is right in front of me, right there, I just have to grab it,” said Solomon. “Nkosi Solomon is the only and greatest challenge I have to overcome when it comes to this boxing thing.

“I’m conquering my mind because once I do that, nobody, and I mean nobody in this world, can stop me.

“I have a dream to accomplish and I’ll be damned if I am going to let another man get in there and have his will beat my will.

“It’s a surreal feeling. I’ve been chasing this dream for so long, to become the undisputed Heavyweight champion of the world, as you get steps closer it feels amazing. The support I’ve had already is amazing and I just cannot wait to get started in Chicago and show what I’ve got.

“The talent in the gym allows me to be better as a man and a fighter. I’ve been in there for five years and I’ve been working hard every day.

“I’ve got an educated style – I’m a boxer-puncher, I want to be out there being smart and using my mind, don’t get me wrong, I like to fight, but the point of this game is to hit and not get hit – but I will be exciting to watch, believe me.”

Solomon will take his spot under the bright lights as Matchroom Boxing USA and DAZN usher in a new era in boxing in America.

There are two great World title clashes between IBF World Light-Heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev against Briton Callum Johnson and WBA World Super-Bantamweight champion Daniel Roman defending his crown for the third time against Britain’s Gavin McDonnell.

Eddie Hearn, President of Matchroom Boxing USA:

“It’s always great flying eight hours and you turn up and you see this state of the art, brand new arena, with some wonderful people working on this project that I know are going to make a huge effort for this event – Worlds Collide, October 6 live and exclusively on DAZN across America, Sky Sports in the UK. This is a huge event and the first of our 16 fights across the year on DAZN. We are delighted to be in Chicago, a great fight city that we hope to really invigorate on October 6 in front of a huge crowd. It’s a new era of broadcasting and a great chance to build our shows from top to bottom. No linear construction, no blocks getting in the way. Live throughout the night, stacked nights continuously, giving fight fans exactly what they want.”

Joe Markowski, SVP DAZN North America:

“I’m personally very excited to be here representing DAZN at the very start of our journey here in the US. Let me start by saying that DAZN was built by fans for fans, and whilst our platform in good time will be carrying a huge range of multisport content bringing tremendous value and excitement to fans of all types, our launch and our first faze here in America is very focused on boxing and fight sports. The reason for that, is we feel that boxing and MMA fans have been underserved for far too long. We’re really excited to be announcing today our first card in the US here in Chicago with our partners at Matchroom for October 6. It’s a really solid and deep card featuring two World title fights, former World Champions, undefeated fighters, another instalment of the Mexico vs. Puerto Rico rivalry during Hispanic Heritage Month. It really does promise to be a great night, a cracking show.”

Jessie Vargas – 28(10)-2-1 from Las Vegas, taking on Thomas Dulorme at Welterweight: “Thank you for the opportunity, it really is a pleasure. Thanks to Thomas Dulorme for stepping up to the plate and taking this challenge. I look forward to giving you great fights through DAZN, that’s the plan that we have. We have a great platform and we’re going to give you all excitement and all entertainment. I promise you that I will bring fireworks and I will bring entertainment. I am en-route to becoming a World Champion once again. I am a former two division World Champion. First of all, October 6 is going to be a great fight, Thomas Dulorme is a contender that always comes to give a showdown. He never lets you down, he always brings you action and when the name came up I said sure let’s do it! It doesn’t matter to me, whoever you want to put in front of me, I’m ready.”

Thomas Dulorme – 24(16)-3(2) from Puerto Rico, taking on Jessie Vargas at Welterweight: “Thank you for giving me this big opportunity. This is a great fight, it’s Mexico vs. Puerto Rico again!”

Artur Beterbiev – 12(12)-0 Russia fighting out of Montreal, Canada defending his IBF World Light-Heavyweight title against Callum Johnson: “First of all I would like to thank Matchroom Boxing for being part of this card in Chicago. If I’m not mistaken the trainer of my opponent said I have 13 wins and 13 KO’s, is he right? Because I only have 12 fight and 12 KO’s under my belt. Thank you very much for your time and see you on October 6.”

Callum Johnson – 17(12)-0 Light-Heavyweight from Lincoln, England challenging Artur Beterbiev for the IBF World Light-Heavyweight title: “I want to thank Matchroom, Eddie Hearn and DAZN for giving me this golden opportunity. I’ve dreamt of this moment since I was a little boy. Thanks to my trainer Joe Gallagher for getting me in this position. My last fight was a good win and it got me in the World rankings with the IBF and as Joe and Eddie said, nobody was taking this fight, nobody wanted to know. You only had to ask me once and I’m here. I’m coming to win the fight and I look forward to it. People are saying that I’m brave and as Joe said, fortune favours the brave.”

Joe Gallagher – trainer of Callum Johnson: “First of all I’d like to thank Matchroom, Eddie Hearn and DAZN for putting on this event. I’m really looking forward to this fight. Callum Johnson – 17 fights, 17 wins, 12 by knockout, going up against the World Champion Artur Beterbiev – 13 fights, 13 wins, 13 knockouts [incorrect as pointed out by Beterbiev]. I think the title of this show, Worlds Collide, sums up this fight. It’s a great fight, both haven’t been as active as they’d have liked to be over the past two years. There’s lots of questions to be answered by both fighters. Both have the power to knock each other out. Both can be knocked out. It’s an exciting fight. This is a huge opportunity and like Callum’s motto says – fortune favours the brave.”

Daniel Roman – 25(9)-2-1 from Los Angeles defending his WBA World Super-Bantamweight title against Gavin McDonnell from Doncaster, England: “Come October 6 I will be making the third defence of my World title and it won’t be my last one. I wish my best to Gavin and it will be a great fight and a great night.”

Tomasz Adamek – 53(31)-5(2) Poland fighting out of New Jersey, taking on Jarrell Miller at Heavyweight: “Thank you to Eddie Hearn for the opportunity to fight in Chicago again. 13 years ago was my first fight and I’m ready to go again on October 6 and October 6 is my day. We start our training camp on Monday. I want to say good luck to my opponent Jarrell Miller, I respect him, he is a good boy, a young boy. I am older and smarter, we will see who is better on October 6.”

Jarrell Miller – 21(18)-0-1 from Brooklyn, taking on Tomasz Adamek at Heavyweight: “Adamek made me kind of hungry when he called me a boy. He is a legend but when you fight a young stud like me, sometimes parents get their butt whipped. This young man is going to take it to pops. The Heavyweight division in booming right now. Adamek stepped up in the blink of an eye to take this fight and I take my hat off to him but bring the ambulance because it’s gunna be an early night. I’m not going to spend an extra round in that ring. AJ might be the best in England but he isn’t the best in America and that’s the way I see it. Hard work, dedication, cheeseburgers, let’s get it.”

Shawn Simpson – 8(3)-0 Bantamweight from Chicago in action on the undercard: “I want to thank Matchroom for giving this opportunity to fight on this card in my hometown in this beautiful arena. One day I hope to be where these guys are fighting for and defending World titles. On October 6th I’m going to put on a great show and show why I am one of the best Bantamweight prospects right now in boxing.”

Jessica McCaskill – 5(3)-2 Lightweight from Chicago in action on the undercard: “It’s so great to see everyone coming out today, it’s going to be a great fight on October 6th, all of the communities coming together for Worlds Collide. I’m definitely excited to represent Chicago as a Chicago fighter. I’m looking to get back into the World rankings and fight for a World title, this fight is going to take me there so make sure you stay tuned.”

Vargas, Beterbiev, Roman and Miller star in Chicago bill

Tickets for October 6 bumper card on sale today at 3pm

(Chicago, IL) Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing USA are delighted to confirm the line-up for the first American show live on DAZN at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago on October 6.

World-rated Welterweight and former two-weight World champion Jessie Vargas headlines the bill as he targets World honours in a third weigh class, and Vargas’ journey to that goal starts against former World Super-Lightweight World title challenger Thomas Dulorme, the Puerto Rican looking to derail the Las Vegas man’s ambitions at 147lbs.

Two great World title battles feature in the Windy City as crunching Russian puncher Artur Beterbiev defends his IBF World Light-Heavyweight strap against Briton Callum Johnson. Beterbiev has a perfect record of 12-0 with all wins coming via KO, but Johnson is an unbeaten feared puncher himself, having destroyed British champion Frank Buglioni inside a round of their clash in London in March – his 12th KO from 17 wins, pointing to this clash being one that promises to be a ferocious shootout.

Classy WBA World Super-Bantamweight champion Daniel Roman defends his crown for the third time against Britain’s Gavin McDonnell. Roman won his title on the road in Japan in brilliant style with a stoppage win over Shun Kobo and was fantastic in both his first defence back in Japan against Ryo Matsumoto and his second against Moises Flores in California. The Californian is hunting unification clashes but will need to be at his best once again against McDonnell, the Doncaster ace having his second crack World honours having learnt so much in his majority decision loss against WBC champion Rey Vargas in February 2017 – making for a fascinating clash that could catch fire and steal the show.

Heavyweight boxing is as hot as it’s ever been right now, and Brooklyn’s Jarrell Miller is right in the mix for the big fights. ‘Big Baby’ is looking to add win number 22 to his slate and force himself into the conversation at the top table, and the man in his way is Poland’s Tomasz Adamek, the former two-weight World champion who picked up and defended the Polish title in his last two fights in his homeland.

Along with these World stars, Chicago fight fans will be able to back two of their own on the night, with former World Lightweight title challenger Jessica McCaskill in action on the bill along with unbeaten Bantamweight prospect Shawn Simpson.
