BOLTON’S FLATLEY PREDICTING ‘GREAT FIGHT’ AHEAD OF TITLE SHOT THIS WEEKEND

Bolton’s Jack Flatley is predicting some great rounds of action when he co-headlines a double-title fight show this weekend at home venue, the Whites Hotel.  On Saturday, May 11, Flatley takes on Craig Morris for the English Light-Middleweight Title, while fellow Bolton man Jack Cullen gets Yorkshire’s Jack Sellars for the Middleweight version of the belt.

It’s a tough assignment for Flatley, in his first attempt at winning honours.  Shropshire’s Morris has lost just twice in 14 fights – with one of those defeats coming to WBA International Champion Scott Fitzgerald.  And the 27-year-old already has previous title-winning form, having been the Midlands Area Champion in 2016.

With just a single draw the only blemish on his near-perfect 15-bout ledger, Flatley is confident heading into the biggest fight of his career.  The 24-year-old, known as ‘Quiet Storm’, is looking forward to fighting in front of a big, home crowd and, although he isn’t taking his eye off the ball, wants to be mixing with the big names of the domestic division – currently featuring the likes of Anthony Fowler, Ted Cheeseman and Sam Eggington – in the near future.

“I’ve seen quite a few of his fights” said Jack.  “He boxed Fitzgerald, who’s obviously a good fighter, and took him 10 rounds.  He seems like a good pressure fighter, and I’m expecting that from him.  I’ve fought plenty of pressure fighters though, so it will suit me if he does come forward.  But if he comes to box then I can deal with that too because I’ve had plenty of good sparring.

“It really does have all the makings of a great fight, because we’re both known to come forward and have all-action styles.  I’m buzzing, I’ve sold plenty of tickets and it’s a big title to be fighting for, for my first one.  It would mean everything to win it, especially in Bolton.

“Obviously, I’m focusing on Morris, because it’s a tough enough fight not to look past.  I’ve got to be confident I’m going to win though and, as long as I come through, I want to be defending it then getting into British Title contention towards the end of this year.

“I want to be mixing with those big names.  I’ve been in with them in the amateurs so if I win this English Belt then I’ll be ready to start thinking about mixing with them.”

“This is a really good show for Bolton,” said VIP Promotions’ Steve Wood.  “It’s not often you’ll see two English Titles being contested on the same night, and to have two local lads fighting for these belts is great for the town.  Both are in hard fights though and will need to put in top performances if they’re going to win.  They’ve both sold lots of tickets, so the atmosphere will be excellent, and this will be a great night of boxing.”

VIP Promotions presents an evening of boxing at the Bolton Whites Hotel on May 11th.  Headlining will be Bolton’s Jack Cullen fighting for the English Middleweight Title versus Jack Sellars, and Bolton’s Jack Flatley taking on Craig Morris for the English Light-Middleweight Belt.

Also appearing will be Darwen’s Luke Blackledge; Wigan’s James Moorcroft and Andrew Fleming; Leigh’s Kyle Lomotey; Beswick’s Kane Gardner; Oldham’s Jack Kilgannon; and Dukinfield’s Damian Chambers.

Tickets priced at £35 (general), £60 (ringside) are available from all boxers, or at vipboxing.tv

The show will also be streamed live and free at vipboxing.tv

VIP Promotions returns to the Oldham Leisure Centre this Saturday (October 6) with a stacked card of boxing

Lee Hogan from VIP TV recently caught up with three of the night’s fighters – Jack Cullen, Jack Kilgannon and Jack Rafferty

Cullen from Bolton was due to face Wiltshire’s Anthony Fox but, with Fox now off the show, Jack will have to negotiate the challenge of a late replacement. In just two years as a pro, Cullen – AKA ‘Little Lever’s Meat Cleaver’ – has romped to 13-1 (4), with his sole defeat coming in the Irish Last Man Standing tournament, when he had just eight minutes to recover from his semi-final bout, before appearing in the final!

Meanwhile, super middleweight Kilgannon, 5-0 (2), gets his first six rounder against the experienced Lewis van Poestch, 7-80-1 (1); while local man Rafferty, in his fifth outing, will fight for the first time in his home town.

“We had a great show last weekend in Liverpool, and I’m expecting another good one this Saturday in Oldham,” said promoter Steve Wood. ” Jack Cullen will have to be on his game because he was due to face Fox, but will now get someone totally unexpected. Our fighter, Marcel Braithwaite, lost last weekend against Brett Fidoe, so it just shows that upsets do happen and Jack will need to be switched on.

“As well as these three Jacks [Cullen,Kilgannon and Rafferty], we’ve also got another two Jacks appearing on the show – Jack Flatley and Jack Daniel! All five are in the early stages of their careers, but I believe there’s a few champions amongst them. Reece Mould and Charlie Schofield both get a run out too, both are unbeaten and Reece has five KOs from his ten wins, so it will be interesting to see if he can get another early finish.”

The show will be streamed live on vipboxing.tv

Tickets for the show are £35 (general) and £60 (ringside).
